Hull
or “Kingston upon Hull” to use it's official title, sits on the north bank of
the Humber estuary. This position gives the City the benefit of a stunning
waterfront with sweeping views over to the rolling hills of Lincolnshire and
away to the wonderful Humber Bridge.
Water has obviously played a major part in Hull's history and today it still extends into the very heart of the city centre. The former docks that encirlcled the old town are now given over to leisure and shopping. Humber dock has been converted into a magnificent 270 berth marina, a pleasant area for a stroll. Prince's dock is home to a stunning shopping centre that is built on stilts above the water and Queens gardens is an oasis of greenery amongst the City's hustle and bustle.
First
time visitors to Hull are often pleasantly surprised and impressed with what the
City has to offer. Within the city centre there are no less than 7 Museums and
an excellent art gallery, all with free entry. The world renowned aquarium ”The
Deep” housing thousands of sea creatures and telling the story of the worlds
oceans, is a must for any visitor. Shoppers are also well catered for especially
with the recent opening of the St. Stephens centre next to the re-furbished
transport interchange. There are a further two indoor shopping centres aswell as
a number of pedestrianised shopping streets.
Within easy Driving distance is the unspoilt East Yorkshire coast and the Yorkshire Wolds with sleepy villages and wonderful views. The Historic Cities of York and Lincoln can both be reached in around an hour and slightly further afield are the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales.
